Vehicles Burnt as Ekiti Varsity Protests Student Death


No fewer than six vehicles was set ablaze and about fifteen others damaged as students of the Ekiti State University went on rampage Friday, to protest the death of a final year student of the Accountancy Department, Abiola Teslim Yusuf, allegedly knocked down by a vehicle.

The incident according to reports occurred when the deceased and some others attempted to extort money from a driver who had come to drop his friend. The driver was said to have knocked down the student while trying to flee the scene.

According to reports, the deceased student was a leader of a cult group on the campus and members of his cult were said to have mobilised other cultists and unleashed terror on the campus.

The deceased was said to have been rushed to Ikere hospital and later transferred to an intensive care unit at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital but the hospital could not handle the case because there was no neurosurgeon to attend to him.


The Vice-Chancellor of EKSUTH, Prof. Oladipo Aina, who described the damage as unprecedented has vowed to fish out all those who participated in the destruction of the university whether they are students or members of staff.
