There are indications that President Goodluck Jonathan may repel the introduction of the N5000 currency billed to be launched early next year by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
This is coming at the heels of a closed door meeting between the President, the Senate President, David Mark and the House Speaker’ Aminu Waziru Tambuwal following the opposition against the denomination by the two chambers of the National Assembly.
According to the report, the Senate President and House Speaker insisted that the timing of the N5,000 note was not good especially as the citizens kicks against the plan.
“At the end of the day, the President told the leaders: ‘If that is the popular decision of Nigerians, we will advise the CBN to have a rethink of the policy. We will not enforce it because we cannot run against the wish of our people” reports The Nation
