A mother identified as Mrs. Sekinat Akewusola, 27, Thursday jumped into Osun river from the bridge located at Oke-Gada, Ede , eleven days after she was deliveredof the twins.
The deceased described as a devout Muslim took the leap after giving money to beggars and praying by the bridge leaving behind her slippers and veil at the scene of the incident.
Head, Disaster Management Unit, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Olaniyi Babalola, who confirmed the incident, said investigation has commenced to determine the cause of the suicide.
Her husband, who according to the report was stopped from attempted suicide following the incident, insisted there was no crisis in the home front.
Me, I don’t understand what has suddenly taken over Nigerians. Suicide was never a topic of discussion; suddenly people take their lives at the slightest provocation. I think it’s about time government set up a committee to ascertain the reason for the sudden spate of the ignominy.
